Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then found multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be solved promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
